MONROE, NY -- Since I've been fishing Walton Lake in Monroe I decided to try Round Lake just down the road from Walton. Arrived about 6:45AM and had the boat launched by 7AM. Since I had no idea what the lake was like I began fishing the center island which had small size lilly pads all around it. I tried some top water, frogs and senkos with no luck. I continued working the shoreline, even tossing a jig at one point.
When I had arrived I recalled reading a sign about weed poison having been added two weeks ago so I noticed tons of weeds with an ugly dead color. That's probably why I struggled to find fish. I tried to search out some healthy green vegetation but could not find any. 10AM was nearing and I still had not a single nibble. I decided to call it a day and return another day to try to scout the rest of the lake. Leaving skunked was a bad feeling since it's been a very long time I've skunked out while out on one of my local lakes.
WELL, as I began making my way back to the boat launch, the fish decided to make an appearance. I was working a power worm with a twist on bullet weight (Florida Rig) when I felt my rod tip get heavy. BAM!! I set the hook and it was on. All I could hear was my drag screeching. I still had not seen the fish so I wondered; do I really have one. Well I was rewarded with this nice fish...
He probably was around 2.5lbs but I didn't weigh him. He came off of some wood so I figured I'd look around for more wood and see if they were relating to wood this morning. And what do ya know, bam, bam, bam! I got 3 more fish on the senko all from pieces of wood or some type of lay-downs. All four of the fish I caught were within 30 mins of leaving the lake. I'm certainly going to come back and check this lake out again.

RHINEBECK, NY -- Met up with a few guys from
nybass.com for a mini-get together at Long Pond. The day overall was slow, however steady. There was no solid pattern other than most of the fish hitting along weed lines. The fish were feeding mainly on dragon flies of a reddish/orange color. I tried to "match the hatch" and pulled out a hula grub of pumpkin seed color to attempt to mimic the appearance of the dragon flies.
The fish were simply launching out the water to catch those darn dragon flies. All my fish were caught on all kinds of presentations including spinnerbait, grub and crankbait. Even the pickerel were biting but they were very small in size, as were all the fish I was catching.
My biggest fish was 2.5lbs and came on a spinnerbait along the weedline.
We all fished until about 1pm, packed up and headed down the road for some grub. We had lunch together, discussed our day then headed out for our long trips home. I definitely wouldn't mind getting together with the guys again as it was a fun day. I caught about 8-10 fish in total including bass, pickerel and one big fat ugly blue gill.

Had a night tournament last night that lasted until 6:30AM this morning on Twin Lake in CT. The club arrived by 5:30PM and we were all in the water by 6. My partner and I thought the night was going to be great as he landed 3 bass within two hours of arriving. Well, after those 3 bass it was a perch fest the rest of the night (well a few rock bass joined the party but it was the most perch I've seen caught in a very long time).
The club had two weigh-in's, one at midnight and another at 6:30AM. Most fish were caught by others up until midnight while very few fish were caught by morning. It was a tough bite to say the least but talk around the launch site was that the lake had been treated with chemicals for weed control which may have contributed to the decline in quantity and quality of the fishing.
I myself hooked into one bass that I managed to bump on the side of the boat like a knucklehead and lost. Night fishing is never easy. :o(

NEWBURGH, NY -- Our son has never been big on fishing but the last two weeks he has been driving my wife & I nuts about taking him fishing. Since we were uncertain how serious he was about fishing, we decided to take him and his cousin pan fishing just to see how serious he was.
Boy were we surprised to see his excitement upon arriving to the lake with worms and rod in hand.
My wife & I helped get the boys setup for some fishing after we selected what appeared to be an ideal spot for some blue gills. As soon as the kids were setup they were quick at work trying to hook into some fish. :o)

Weather: Partly Cloudy
Water Temp: 81 Degrees
NEWBURGH, NY -- My wife and I decided to wet a line together today, something we had not done in a very long time. We launched about 10AM to what would be a tough bite mostly because of the windy conditions we experienced. The wind made it tough to fish plastics as the boat would not remain still for longer than two casts before we were against a shoreline again.
We fished rattle traps, power worms on heavy weight, spinnerbaits and other cranks. I managed one fish on a rattle trap early in the day and thought we'd have a great day.
My wife found the second fish of the day on a power worm as we continued to work in finding our fish today.
We ended the day about 2PM with what we thought was going to be only two fish so we decided to fish near the boat launch area in the weeds. We were both rewarded with two more bass on spinnerbaits before we ended the day with a total of 4 fish.
Chadwick is normally a really great lake but despite the heavy winds we managed a decent day at 1 fish per hour. Hopefully my wife and I can team up again soon and try another lake.
