Wappinger Lake

Weather: Clear & Sunny 57*
Water Temp: 54-56*

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY -- Went with my buddy Bill out for some Fall fishing. We launched the boat at about 8AM working our way around the first area near the dam at the lake. We tried some top water baits since we saw some fish breaking the surface with no luck. The fish simply kept breaking the water around us flipping us off with the fin. Bill was flipping a worm while I was trying a grub. When we came upon some rocks I felt my bait get stuck so I set the hook and it was ON!! This beast RIPPED drag off my reel.

We pulled out the scale and it came in at 5.4lbs on the digital; my new best record for a largemouth. After releasing the fish I landed another fish on my next cast and we thought for sure we found the school of bass and the pattern. My buddy quickly tied on a grub and we fished the heck out of the area with plenty of nibbles but no hook ups.

We headed toward the RT9 bridge about 10AM and tried fishing that area for another 2 hours. We got no luck as I noticed the depth finder marking water as cold as 51 degrees near the falls. 90% of the day water temps held steady between 54-56. We continued with plastics with no luck and headed back to the boat launch about Noon. We ended the day with two fish and my poor buddy Bill seems to be skunking out with me lately; well practically (I think he got a fish last time we were out, LOL).

Chodikee Lake

Weather: Clear & Sunny
Water Temp: 66-67 Degrees

NEW PALTZ, NY -- Arrived at the lake about 2:15pm today. I was supposed to hook up with a buddy but an emergency kept him from the action. Well, he didn't miss much cause I left after 3hrs and three fish later. All the fish came in the last hour as I searched out where they could be. Nothing was near the pads as I worked spinnerbaits and plastics along the edges.

I made my way into the creek channel but didn't go too far in because I wasn't getting any bites or nibbles for that matter. I decided to work the deeper shorelines and that's when I got lucky. The fish were sitting on the shoreline ledges in or around 5-6 FT of water with an immediate drop off into 8-10FT of water. As I fished the shoreline edges feeling for these "shelves", that's when I found my bites.

All the fish were small. I've only been to this lake a handful of times and I seem to hook into better fish during the summer than I do in the fall. I'm not sure if I'll be back out here this season but I'm finding it to fish better in the summer months when the fish are under the lilly pads.
