Chodikee Lake

Weather: Rain/Thunder Storms
Water Temp: 84 Degrees

NEW PALTZ, NY – Went fishing with my friend Bill for our Father’s Day weekend treat. I had some things to do in the early AM so we headed out by Noon. When we arrived to the lake several people were leaving, sun still blazing above.

We launched by about 1pm and not even 30 minutes into our fishing we hear thunder; “Uh-Oh”. We decided to fish near the boat launch – “just in case”. We started off with some soft plastics and a spinnerbait. We noticed fish were breaking through the lilly pads so I decided, what the heck let me try a frog. On about my 3rd cast I got a 12″ bass on the frog. As Bill tried to tie on a frog the rain began. We still waited to see what would happen when down came a down pour which forced us out of the water into the car to wait it out.

After 20 minutes in the car, the rain stopped and the sun was once again blazing high in the sky. We got back in the boat and began fishing down the lake with frogs in hand. Chodikee is loaded with lilly pads and if you love frogging, then you WILL have a blast on this lake. Bill caught the first fish on a frog after our return on the water.

As we continued down the lake we each kept catching fish, nothing huge but a heck of a lot of fun. At one point I had a fish keep coming up for my frog as he could not get my frog in his mouth on his first 3 attempts. I believe on the 4th burst he got my frog in his mouth and it was on. I quickly reeled to keep him from digging into the lilly pads and breaking off. To my surprise I was able to drag him over the pads to only see he was pretty big (3lbs).
