Chodikee Lake

Sep 03, 2007 by BooBee
Weather: Cool & Very Windy
Water Temp: 74 Degress

Bill and I went to try out a new lake in New Paltz, NY - Chodikee Lake. It's a small 63 acre lake with TONS of lilly pads along the edges of about 90% of the lake. It was our first time fishing this lake so it was a big challenge to try and put fish in the boat. It seemed like a bass haven from our initial impression, however after launching and fishing for several hours we found that the lake has a tempermant of it's own. Bill struggled to find fish while I landed about a handful of short fry. The biggest of the day was 1.13lbs and surprisingly no pickerel. We seemed to read a maximum depth of 12FT at almost center of the lake however according to DEP there is a 20ft hole somewhere in the lake. We ran into a local who said there are monster bass in that lake. Where? I have no clue. In the lakes defense the shoreline is basically some kind of marsh/weed patch so if there are monster bass then they are buried deep inside the marsh and vegitation that surrounds the lake, making it impossible to fish unless the bass come along the marsh edges to get a meal. All in all it was a very nice lake and I'd love to head back in a few weeks to see if those elusive monster bass come out to fatten up. :o)
