Sylvan Lake

Weather: Cloudy & Warm 75*
Water Temp: 76*
Bait(s): Senko

SYLVAN LAKE, NY -- Launched at 5:15AM with a nice mist on the lake and was joined by a buddy; Ralph. About 15 minutes into our trip I landed the first fish on a spook coming in at a whopping 4lbs. Seeing this beast had our hopes up high for a great day...

4lb Bass

We continued using top water lures hoping we would have a top water frenzy as we did at White Pond a few weeks ago but the top water bite never materialized. We worked the shoreline trying to find a pattern which was not easily found. We threw cranks, tubes, grubs, oh yea and I even have kitchen sinks in my tackle bag and we tossed one of those out but nothing. Ralph was able to pull off a miraculous come back from a skunking by landing his own 4lber on a "chatter" bait he was throwing. For the record, he got totally lucky. LOL!

Another 4lber

My first fish came 15 minutes after our launch and Ralph found his lunker at 8am. After that we struggled to find a solid pattern of some sort. Finally at about 10am we found the pattern; the senko!! We fished the senko near a drop from 7ft of water to 25ft of water (yes it was that steep) allowing the senko to fall through scattered tall weeds. The fish would simply take the bait and run off with it, not a single fish made it known that he had the bait (no hard hits). The lines would move and "wack" we would set the hooks.

We ended our day about 10:45 after the feeding frenzy died down. We avoided leaving the lake with only two fish and ended the day with 8 bass and 1 rock bass. We had a great time and only wish we could have stayed longer but we both had other commitments for the remainder of our day.
