MONROE, NY — Launched at 6AM with my friend Bill to get the morning bite. We fished the shoreline on the opposite end of the boat launch fishing spinnerbaits and topwater baits until about 8:30AM. We had several misses but I got a nice smallie and LMB in the morning.
This smallie hit the spook very close to the shoreline but surprisingly didn’t give much of a fight for his size…
After we fished topwater on the shaded side of the lake we started fishing the docks along side the lake next to the main road. We had tons of pan fish “pecking” at our lures and I lost a nice fish that for some reason I failed to hook properly; despite shaking the boat on my hook set. As we made our way back to the boat launch about 10:30AM we noticed bait fish and just as we passed the “calm” bait fish, they started going nuts. I flipped my senko into the frenzy and was rewarded with this feeding bass…
This bass was the best fight of the day, maybe cause he was so hungry going after the bait fish. We ended the day by Noon with about 5 fish in the boat; not too shabby. Temps started to sore by the time we were leaving the lake. Next week we may stop at Round Lake since we pass it by but have yet to fish it.
