Walton Lake

Weather: Very Hot
Water Temp: 71 Degrees

MONROE, NY – Went fishing with my younger brother to Walton Lake in Monroe. We arrived about 8:30am and the temps were already soaring as the weekend forecast predicted temps in the high 90′s. We fished all along the shoreline that was shaded in hopes of finding those fish that were trying to keep cool and out of the direct sun. Walton, from what I could see doesn’t have a lot of cover (although it was my first visit and we hadn’t covered the entire lake) so we fished with hopes of finding a pattern.

My brother hooked into several fish, how don’t ask because I’m supposed to be the pro, but he did lose all his fish from his failure to set the hook on the fish. I on the other hand knew very well how and when to set the hook and the only thing I hooked into was a huge smallie. In the excitement of catching that sucker I forgot to weigh ‘em. Grr!

Other than my brother losing fish left & right, the smallie was the only fish I saw for the 5hrs we fished. Walton lake is covered with a lot of lilly pads but as we fished we saw a lot of frogs sitting on lilly pads enjoying the sun. We watched in hopes some bass would come up and savor the meals on the pads but none ever emerged. Having seen no frogs get eaten, we didn’t even bother throwing frogs.

Look at this guy just hanging out. He even went for a swim a few times with no risk to his life (go figure).
